Original Cake – 源味本铺 is the stall in City Square Johor Bahru (JB) where you can see queue snaking infront of it stall. You will be attracted to join in the queue as the fragrant of the Taiwanese Egg Sponge Cake. It has five flavours to choose from – Original (RM15), Cheese (RM20), Chocolate (RM25), Healthy dried Longan, Almond and Nuts, Cranberry and Banana Milk Flavour. In JB City Square Branch, only the first three Flavour are being offered.

Currently, it has 6 branches in Malaysia (Sunway Velocity Mall, Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Carnival Mall, Gurney Plaza, Queensbay Mall, One Utama Shopping centre and JB City Square).

The original flavour (RM15) is derived from the mixture of fresh egg, milk and flour. It gives a milky and eggy flavour. The sponge cakes are moist and spongy. Love the texture. Strongly recommend to consume the cakes when warm this is when it tastes the best!

The cheese flavour (RM20) taste pretty much similar with the original except there are two layers of sliced cheese filling within and cheese powder sprinkled on the top. This gives a silky melted egg flavour. Best for cheese lover. Yums!

I was not expecting the chocolate flavour to be nice, but it turns out that it tastes surprising good even when chilled. Dark Bittersweet chocolate were added to the cakes. You can taste the generous amount of chocolate added. When it is chilled, the taste is better (in my own opinion). This delight cost RM20 only.

I find it a waste that the remaining flavours are not being offered in city Square branch as the flavours described on its web makes it so tempting to try.

Longan flavour contains dried logan treated with honey and rum to give an elegantly refined longan flavour.

Almond and Nuts consist of a combination of mixed nuts of almonds plus eight different kinds of healthy nuts to create a crispy nutty texture.

Cranberry flavour consist of fresh and pink cranberries added to the original flavour to give a fruity and sweet variation.

Lastly, the banana milk flavour gives a faint scent of banana to the original flavour.
