Asanoya Bakery, a Japanese bakery having a long history since 1933, has finally set foot in Singapore. Asanoya Bakery was located in 15 Queen Street, serving many quality bread and tart. It has also been gaining popularity in Singapore due to the launch of Salted Egg Yolk Croissants as well as Matcha Salted Egg yolk Croissants.

I have thought imagined that the Asanoya Bakery to be a takeaway bakery or maybe a small café with limited seats. But to my surprise, it has a huge seating area which can seat probably 80 pax.

The café was brightly lit with white background creating a visual impression that the café was huge, clean and cosy. You can also see freshly baked breads and tarts being displayed on the rack.

Everything just look too tempting. Despite only two of us, I over-ordered and burst my calories intake. But it is so worthwhile.

All you have to do is to queue up. When it is your turn, the staff will serve you and pack your items for you (for takeaway) or if you are intending to dine-in, they will give you a pager and heat up the food for you.

1st : Queue Up & Select your food
2nd: Pay at the counter
3rd: Collect your beverage
4th : Collect your breads / tarts when the pagar calls for you. This is where the items were reheated.
5th: Collect your utensils
These are what I order during the first round – Matcha Salted Egg Yolk Croissant ($4.90) , Salted Egg Yolk Croissant ($4.50), Chocolate Lava Cube Topped with Haagen Dazs Matcha Ice Cream ($4.50 + $4),  Tart Au Poire ($5.50)

Salted Egg Yolk Croissant ($4.50) : The croissants was soft and crispy. The salted egg yolk was slightly grainy but it was not oversweet. The generous filling of salted egg yolk lava makes this croissant very worthwhile as it enable diner to have a taste of the lava in every bite.
Matcha Salted Egg Yolk Croissant ($4.90) : It does not ooze out like the original salted egg yolk but the combination of matcha and salted egg yolk was surprising good. Matcha has the taste of sweet and bitterness while salted egg yolk has the taste of sweet and salty. This combination of both ingredients allows us to have a combination of sweet, bitter and salty taste. These taste may seems like it contradict with each other but surprising, they seems to be in harmony in this croissant.
Chocolate Lava Cube Topped with Haagen Dazs Matcha Ice Cream ($4.50 + $4) : Upon cutting, the chocolate lava oozed out of the soft chocolate bread. It was really delicious. The chocolate lava uses tend to have a bitter after taste, preventing the whole bread from being overly sweet. The hot soft bread and the hot lava helps together with the chilled matcha ice cream create a satisfaction from contrasting food temperature.
Tart Au Poire ($5.50) : Pear and cassis in almond Frangipane. It was a very new combination for me. But it taste interesting as it was sweet with a little sticky texture. But the sweetness does not make it unbearable. Instead, it gives a very mild fragrance in your mouth after eating.
I was trying to have a catch-up session with my best friend while chilling in the café. The more I look at the bread, the more tempted I get. In the end, I can’t resist my temptation and went to order more.

Potato French ($3.20) : You will be surprise to find a whole potato encased in the French bread accented with butter and mayonnaise. French toast were hard while the potato within was really soft, giving it a contrasting texture. Personally, I find that the mayonnaise was too much for my liking as I find that it overpowered the natural taste of baked potato.

Sweet Potato Yuzu Danish ($3.60) : The Danish was crispy and sweet. Topped with warm Sweet potato was also sweet and fresh. The hint of tanginess from yuzu helps to prevent the sweetness from being overpowering, complementing the Danish very well.
While queuing, we get to try the sample for Karuiza Bread (blueberry, green tea and raisin).  They are really soft and fluffy within.
