Redpan , a restaurant serving many interesting “east
& west” fusion dishes , located in Marina Square. There are many interesting dishes such as
Truffle Floss fries, Prawn & Hae Bi Hiam Pasta, Crispy Fish Otak Burger and
Seared Salmon in Laksa Gravy.
It is highly recommended via chope that you make a
reservation before going (especially during weekend and weekdays night), as the
restaurant tend to be fully occupied. Due to the cosiness of the restaurant and
weekday 1-for-1 beer promotion, diners tend to spend some time chilling in the
restaurant event after consuming their food.
All thanks to my group of friends, I managed to try a
couple of different dishes in this visit. We order truffle fries floss fries,
vegetable lasagna, roasted vegetable aglio olio, prawn & hae bi hiam pasta,
new England fish and chips, Seared Salmon in Laksa Gravy and lastly the lup
cheong iberico chorizo paella.
Truffle Floss Fries ($9)– our favourite dish.
I believe that it is a dish that you must order to
share. The fries are really crispy and “non-oily”. Even mouth, you can taste
the truffle smell infused in it. The mayo and floss further add a tinge of
sweetness to the dish. A wonderful creation (in my pov).
Vegetable Lasagna ($17)
It consists of baked pumpkin, grilled eggplant,
mushroom, pasta sheets with tomato sauce and curry béchamel. This lasagna tends
to be on a softer and less chessy end. The ingredients are really soft and
blend well with the pasta sheets. But I find the dish a little bland and
overcooked. It would be better if the chef is more generous with the cheese and
ensure that the baking time is slightly lesser. If not, you might have the same
experience as me where the pasta sheets taste like “mashed potato”.
Roasted Vegetable Aglio Olio ($16)
The aglio olio tasted delicious where you tasted the
natural fragrant of the olive oil. The pan-roasted vegetables are also soft and
slightly “crispy”. Not to mentioned, the dish is served with a generous serving
of green as garnish.
Prawn & Hae Bi Hiam Pasta ($19)
It is dish fused with local delight- spicy shrimp paste
sauce. We like the taste of the homemade spicy shrimp paste as you can still
find bits of crunchy shrimp within. The freshness of the sautéed prawn further
enhanced the taste of the pasta. It tends to be a little salty when approaching
the end of dish. It seems to be a must order dish when you visit redpan as you
can see this dish in almost every table. But I do feel that the taste does
justify for this must try dish.
New England Fish and Chips ($17)
A dish that will never go wrong. My friends really love
this dish as the portion of the white fish are generous. The batter coating the
white are just nice, making it non-floury. We also like how crispy yet
non-greasy the fish are.
Seared Salmon in Laksa Gravy ($25)
Seared salmon was being
served together with smashed potato drizzled with laska gravy. It is definitely
a very new and interest way of trying salmon. The laksa gravy was not spicy but
was flavourful.
‘Lup Cheong’ Iberico Chorizo Paella ($28)
This dish is served with lup cheong, iberico chorizo in
paella rice and fragrant garlic oil. Lup cheong are Taiwanese style sausage
which is slightly sweet and cruncy. There is a generous serving of chicken
cubes within the paella rice.
In our visit (on a weekday night), there is a 1-for-1
beer promotion. Even without the promotion, half a pint of beer cost only $8.
With the promotion, it cost only $4 each! What a steal.
If you are looking for a place to chill or a chance to
taste interesting fusion of food, why not give redpan a chance by dropping by.
