Character Café is the first cartoon theme café in Singapore by BonJapan. Characters café could be commonly seen in Japan due to cute characters popping up every now and then. This café was located in Dhoby Xchange.

The opening theme is “Kuma” which stands for “bear” and Rilakkuma is the first character brought into Singapore by BonJapan. It was said to have different character theme every month.

I wanted to visit this café earlier this year during valentine, but I missed the chance as it was packed. So bf brought me here recently. I am thankful that I only went recently as the café was just gone through a renovation making the café more appealing and comfortable.

After the renovation, the opening theme was once again Rilakuma! To BonJapan website (click on JMall à Character Meal) or click on this url directly (http://www.worldsnackday.com/index.php/product-category/characters-cafe/).

Do note that you need to purchase the meal online so that they will prepare your meal  in advance.

Snack bar was just located a few footsteps away from the café. It sells a variety of Japanese snacks and plushie.

The café was really small. It can house only maximum 4 groups of customers at a times (16 chairs). It was decorated with many plushie on the table and chairs. There are also movie being screened throughout. During my visit, ZOOTOPIA was being screened. So we were enjoying the show while waiting for the food.

The moment you enter the café, you will be ask to show the meal voucher that you have bought online and they will prepare the food as per chosen.

** NOTE: The waiting time for the food is extremely long. If you do not have the luxury of time, I advise you don’t visit. My food required 2 hrs to be served. We asked for all to be served together. There is two of us, so two main course (one each) and we order a dessert.

Drink (15 min after we were seated down) à First Set Meal served after (45 mins after drink was served)à 2nd Set meal served (after 30 min the 1st set meal) à Dessert ( 30 min after 2nd set meal).

Now perhaps you can see why I can have so many photos taken. Because it is simply too long wait for the food when there are only 3 groups of couple.

After a long wait, the food is here. Do not pin too high expectation on the food because it might just disappoint you.

Honey Roasted Chicken Mid-Wings Rice Set With Japanese Curry: The honey roasted chicken mid-wing taste like CP honey wings. The Japanese curry taste like the sauce I buy from daiso. So I guess the food is considered decent for this set.

Chicken-Pork Yaki Gyoza Rice Set w/ Cream Sauce: The gyoza taste like frozen food that was pan-fried. And the cream sauce taste like thick Campbell soup.

Each set meal comes with a drink, a snack and a sure win dip. We were kind of unlucky as we both draw a cup.

The desserts finally came. It was pretty decent and nice. Crispy buttery bread toast was laid on the plate will a big scoop of vanilla ice cream topped on it. It cames with slices of apples and strawberry with chocolate sauce drizzled on it. The dessert was yummy but would appreciate if more chocolate sauce was given as the toast tend to be very dry went the sauce finished.

After a meal, you can choose to wear the costume for a photo before leaving for memories.

Character café is a café that I would appreciate visiting at least once for an experience. But I would not revisit for the wait was simply too long and there is no wow factor with the food nor service rendered.

Cost:
Main Course + Drink + Biscuit = $20.90
