Joe’s Kitchen has opened
its door in 2006, serving delicious and authentic thai food in central-south of
Singapore near Bukit Merah / Queensway Shopping Centre. Thai food lover would
definitely not want to miss this restaurant. Do note that it tends to be
crowded during peak hours because the food is simple delicious.
The man behind all these
delicious food is Chef Joe, who comes from Nakhon Phanom in the Northern
Eastern region of Thailand. He worked as a chef at Parkway Thai Restaurant for
6 years, before fulfilling his and his wife’s dream of having a restaurant of
their own.
There
is an extensive variety of food to choose from the menu.
Phad Thai ($6.50)
Phad Thai is a stir-fired
rice noodles dish commonly served as a street food and at casual local eateries
in Thailand. Joe’s Kitchen phad thai brings me back to the times where I’m in
Bangkok eating this delicious noodles. I love how Chef Joe deliver this dish as
it is not oily nor overly wet. The noodles were nicely cooked to retain the
springy texture.
Thai Milk Tea / Thai Green
Milk Tea ($3)
Thai milk tea has always
been known for its smooth texture but overly sweet characteristic. But here in
Joe’s Kitchen, the milk tea and green milk tea’s sweetness was just nice. It
also gives a natural fragrant of tea in your mouth after consuming.
Belachan Sweet Potato
Leaves ($9.90)
Belachan sweet potato
leave is a dish that chef joe has tailored in accordance to local taste. In
thailand, you can easily find the vegetable stirred fried in chopped chilli and
shrimp but not in the form of belachan (shrimp paste). You can actually request
to have the spicy level reduced in this eatery so that you can still enjoy the
shrimp taste without being too “fire up”.
Thai Prawn Cake ($3 per
pc)
Prawn cakes are usually
served in Thailand as appetizers. Shrimp are being pulse until smooth paste
before coating it with bread crumbs and fried. Love how crispy this cake is. In
order to let diner to taste different texture in this tiny cake, the chef has
included in pieces of prawn to the paste.
Stuffed Chicken wing
($3.30 per pc)
Minced meat together with
corn and mushroom was being stuffed into skin and fried till crispy. I must say
the ingredient within was really generous and the skin is really crispy.
However, I find the taste a little too overpowering as I find myself getting
sick of the taste after a few bites.
Green Curry Pork ($7.50)
Green curry has always
been my favourite thai food as it gives a smooth coconut taste in the creamy
sweet curry. This green curry really
satisfied my craving as it manages to strike a balance between sweet and spicy.
The slices of pork are also soft yet chewy. Definitely a must-try here.
Joe’s Thai Kitchen is
definitely a hidden gem serving delicious thai food at a wallet friendly price.
